Meet Orrin Whaley

September 11, 2017

Orrin Snatching a few years ago.

I want to introduce you to our youngest, but pound for pound strongest contributor, Orrin Whaley. He is the youngest in a family of six siblings so it would only be obvious that he has had to fight for his place growing up.  True as that is, he has also benefited from getting an early start in training and athletics as he followed his older siblings to practices and competitions.  At Monument Valley High School he is legendary in the weight room for holding 15 different school records in six different weight classes as he grew through his high school years. He won several state weight lifting championships setting state records along the way. Besides that, he was a state wrestling and track qualifier as well as a region champion in Shotput and Discus in spite of never weighing over 175 lb.

In Weightlifting, Orrin has posted very credible lifts of 125 kg. Snatch and 145 kg. Clean and Jerk (cleaning 150) in the 77 kg. class although he doesn't really train solely as a Weightlifter. He also has pulled triple bodyweight deadlifts and squats over 500 lb. His training centers around his all-around love of all things dealing with strength and power.  He does pullups with 135 lb. strapped to his waist and loves the challenge of doing bodyweight training such as flags and planks of various types.

This Summer he graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. in exercise science and is now in a Master's program in Strength and Conditioning at Southern Utah University.

He is a throwback to the old time strong men who were strong in every discipline and looked great too. He is motivated by health and all-around improvement more than focusing on competing in a single discipline. We are looking forward to his posts here in the future. He has a lot of knowledge and experience to share.
